8th Grade Dabek

Meet the Teacher:  
My name is Owen Dabek.  I have been teaching
for four years and I absolutely love it.  My
two passions are helping students delve deep
into literature and use it as a tool to
understand the world, those around them, and
themselves, and leading them to a more full 
relationship with Jesus.  I will be teaching 
5th-8th grade literature and 5th grade English.

7th Grade: 
    - Unit 1 Spelling Test Wednesday 9/4.
    - Unit 1 Vocabulary Quiz Wednesday 9/5. 
    - We will be Reading Song of the Trees to learn about plot and           theme.  
8th Grade: 
    - Will begin Unit 1 in the Vocabulary Book.

English 5th Grade:
    - We will be reviewing Sentences, types of sentences, and subjects
      and predicates.
    - Quiz over reviewed topics Thursday 9/5.
    - Will continue sentences Unit with Subjects in Imperatives.   
    

Week 2 August 19-23, 2019
Literature:  
 5th grade is working on identifying and understanding how Steps in a Process are communicated. We are reading "The Diver and the Dolphins."  

6-8th grade are working on understanding and examining conflict in stories and how they effect our understanding.  
       6th grade is reading  "Just Once"  by Thomas Dygard
       7th grade is reading "Rikki-Tikki-Tavi"  by Rudyard Kipling  
       8th Grade is finishing "Raymond's Run" Toni Cade Bambara, and                 will quiz over conflict and story on Tuesday.

All students will be given an un-graded Poetry pre-assessment this week and will discuss what a poem is and looks like on our first Poetry Friday.  


5th Grade English.   
We are examining what sentences are and how they are structured.   they will be giving a writing sample for future lesson planning.
