ANNOUNCE THE GOOD NEWS, THE KINDERGARTNERS ARE WELL ON THEIR WAY TO REACHING NEW AND EXCITING LEVELS IN LEARNING!!!

Wow!  Time sure is flying by!  we are already 1/2 way through the 3rd quarter and the students are learning SO much!  We have recently enjoyed celebrating the 100th Day of School on January 24th, and Catholic Schools week last week.

We have finished our first reading book- the students know ALL of the words to each of the stories and should be able to read each of them to you.  If not, they have been learning how to sound out these words and should be able to read them by recognizing the sight words we have been learning and sounding out the harder words they don't recognize right away.  We have been practicing our sight words every day as well.  Most of the students have passed their assessment over the first set of words (the pre-primer words that were given to parents at Parent/Teacher Conferences), which is a list of 40 words. The students who have past the first assessment are well on their way to passing their assessment over the 2nd set of sight words (the primer words were given to the students after they passed their first assessment), which is a list of 52 words. Some of the students have even passed the 2nd assessment already!  The Kindergartners are working VERY hard to prepare themselves for First Grade :).  All of the students are also working very hard to meet their 3rd Quarter AR Goal.  I have 5 students out of 22 who have already read and tested over 5 (OR MORE!) AR books for the quarter.  We have even learned how to count by 10's and are now practicing counting by 10's with dimes.

The second half of the 3rd quarter and the 4th quarter will continue to get pretty busy. You will see lots of growth  with your child (yes, believe it or not, there will be more growth in their learning this year!) that you wouldn't have thought could be possible.  Continue to encourage him/her and to practice the many skills that we are working on at school at home as well.  Most importantly, continue to practice learning the sight words as well as writing the letters and numbers correctly and neatly. This will keep all of the learning we have been doing thus far fresh in their sweet, little brains ;).  Way to go Kindergartners - I am so proud of the progress each and every one of you have made and are continuing to make each day - keep up the hard work!!

Next Up in Kindergarten:

Religion:  We will continue to discover the things God has made to help make our world a better place and focus on how to build a loving, caring relationship with God and one another.

Reading:  We will continue to practice our sight word lists and begin reading more complicated stories

Math: Comparing Numbers, Beginning Addition, Counting by 5's, Counting by 2's, and eventually Beginning Subtraction
