Lent - What Will You Give Up For Jesus?

posted Mar 6, 2019, 9:09 AM by Jamie Austin
As many of you know, Wednesday, March 6, 2019, is the beginning of Lent.  We will begin the season of Lent on Ash Wednesday by attending Mass and receiving ashes.  I have talked with the Kindergartners about sacrifice and giving up something for the 40 days of Lent, as well as choosing to do something nice for someone else.  I am so excited to watch them grow as we continue to sacrifice to not only show Jesus how much we love him, but to show others around us how loving and kind we can be.

In Reading, we will continue to practice our sight words and introduce new words.  Half of our class has already passed their assessment over the first set of words and have moved onto the second set of words  I will begin assessing students on the second set of words on or around March 18th.  I will continue to assess students until the end of the year as needed, but would like to have this done by May if possible, so please continue to practice your sight word flashcards at home as well :).  We will also continue to break words apart, sounding out each letter, and put the word back together sound by sound in order to read new words.

In Math, we will continue to work with our numbers and writing them correctly.  Please note, I do write on your child's papers if he/she is having problems with reversals so that you can practice these writing skills at home as well.

March is a busy month with no breaks, so that means we will be learning a lot this month, as we start preparing more and more to be ready to move on to the first grade.  Continue to practice, practice, practice the skills they bring home to keep it all fresh in their little minds as well as encouraging them to always do their best as we are learning so much and to watch them pick up on these new skills and understand them is such a wonderful thing to be able to experience with them.  Thank you for sharing your child weith me thus far this year!
