The weeks are flying by and December is already half over! We have been learning so much in this short amount of time! Today, we focused on the Legend of the Candy Cane. We learned that there are many significant meanings to the candy cane that relate back to Jesus' love for us. If you hold it upside down, it looks like a 'J' for Jesus. IF you hold it upright, it looks like a sheperd's staff, as it was the shepherd's who first learned of the birth of Jesus and visited him with gifts. The red color on the candy cane represents the blood Jesus shed for us as he dies for us on the cross to save us from our sins. The white color represents the washing away of our sins, by Jesus, to make us pure and clean as falling snow. The sweet flavor of the candy cane represents Jesus' sweet and everlasting love for us. The children were all very excited to receive a candy cane so that they could come home and share the meaning of the candy cane with you. In Reading, we are continuing to practice writing our letters correctly. We have worked on them as a group twice now, and are starting to recognize thier sounds at the beginning of words and blend them together into words as well. We have so far learned 4 sight words here at school. We will keep building on these skills at school, remember to please continue to practicethe sight words at home to build a better, successful, foundation for your child to help him/her learn how to read. In Math, we will be continuing to learn how to write our numbers correctly and identify a specific number of items in a set. Final Notes For December: 1.
