Welcome back!  I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas break and enjoyed spending time together as a family. We have hit the ground running as we start the 2nd semester of Kindergarten!  We have new crayons, new pencils and erasers, and new seats to start the remainder of our year of learning and fun! We have been VERY busy starting to complete assessments over our 1st set of sight words as well as completing all assessments necessary to send home our very first report card for Kindergarten.  The students are all doing a wonderful job of learning new things and are always very eager to learn something new.  Please continue to practice the first set of flashcards that I gave to you at Parent/Teacher Conferences back in October.  If your son/daughter has mastered these words and passed his/her oral assessment over them, then I will send home the second set with a congratulatory note attached.  If you hav by chance misplaced the first set of flashcards,I will be sending home a second set for you and your child to use to practice these words, just in case.  If your child has passed the assessment of the first set of words, I will send home the 2nd set of words for them to begin studying. Students will earn a star on our "Wall of Fame" in the hallway to show that they have mastered learning their sight words and are ready to move on to more difficult reading as they continue to prepare themselves and their learning in order to move on to First Grade next year :).

Also, another new first, is that the students will have homework each night starting with Tuesday, January 3.  Each Monday-Thursday night, your child will have a Math Attack to complete.  They will start out VERY easy so that your child gets the hang of completing his/her homework each night.  By the end of January, they will start to get more detailed.  Also, your child will need to read 5 AR books AT HOME starting this semester/quarter.  Please help your child read his/her AR book 4-5 times at least and then send it to school.  I will give your child the test when they place it in the AR test crate.  Each test they pass, they will be able to move their AR star to show they are on their way to completing their AR goal for the quarter.

We will also begin going to Computer class this quarter instead of going to PE twice a week.  PE will now be on TUESDAYS ONLY.  Please send your child to school dressed in his/her PE Uniform only on Tuesdays until the end of the school year.  Please send your child to school dressed in his/her regular school uniform on Mondays, and Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from now on.

As always, if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me via note, email or phone call and I will answer your question to the best of my ability, or do what I can to find out the necessary answer.  Please feel free to jot your note down on the daily communication log as well as I look at those daily ;).

Have a great weekend - hopefully it will warm up some!
