Welcome to Kindergarten!  We are currently on our 5th day of school for the school year 2017-2018, and the Kindergartners are learning so much already!  Your child will learn SO much this year, you won't believe it if  I just tell you.  They will learn how to read by Christmas and how to count to 100 as well.   It will be a great year of "firsts" for most of the children.  First time they tie their shoes, first time they will actually read a book to you all by themselves, first time completing classwork on their own, and many other firsts that will teach them how to work together in many different types of groups. We will be beginning our "Crash Course" on the Alphabet called Alphabet Boot Camp this week.  We will start with the letter A and work our way through the alphabet discussing the next letter until we reach Z.  Through this process, we will learn the letter's name and the sound it makes along with how to write it correctly.  We will also be naming things that begin with each letter.  Then, after that, we will begin putting the sounds we have learned together to form words and eventually putting those words with other words into sentences.  You will be amazed at how fast the children will pick this up and begin to read in no time.  The same with Math, we will start at 1 and work our way to 10 and then build our skills with each new lesson.  Most of our Math lessons will be hands-on and use manipulatives to complete.  Our Religion curriculum will begin with how God made us and the world we live in and build on how we can be kind, mindful people to help make this world made by God a wonderful place to live in.

We will have Curriculum Night on Wednesday, August 23rd, 2017.  Please plan to attend one of the three sessions starting at 6:30pm.  We will meet in the Chapel and then go to the classrooms for 3 fifteen minute sessions,.  During these sessions, I will be explaining our Curriculum and different things we will be doing throughout the school year.  If for some reason you are unable to attend, a packet wil lbe sent home with each family.  If you are able to attend, you can pick your packet up in our classroom.  If you are unable to attend, I will send the packet home with your child.   Please read through each page thoroughly as it will contain pages that will help me better meet the personal needs as well as the learning needs of each child.  It will also contain very important information that may answer any questions you may still have about Kindergarten and the different processes of the things we do and how they are done.  There will be a few papers that I would like for you to fill out and return to school at your earliest convenience so that I can start meeting the needs of each child with as much information as I can get.  Thank you for your cooperation with this and returning them to school in a timely manner.

As always, if you have any further questions, or bits of important information that would be great for me to know to best support your child's learning process, please do not hesitate to contact me via note, or email at: austin@strpdschool.org  Please know that I may not answer right away, but will respond within 24 hours of your message.   Thank you for sharing your child with me this year and I look forward to making it a GREAT year with your support!
