Well, we are moving full steam ahead into fall. The kids have really settled into a classroom routine, and are continuing to learn so much. Last week we worked on the letter Ii. Evee did a great job giving us clues about the ice cream (play food, of course) that she put in the clue can. The kids are really getting better at deductive reasoning. We explored fall by throwing beanbag leaves on a tree drawing outside, making leaf prints by painting leaves, and reading the book Leaf Man. We will continue exploring fall in the weeks to come. We also had some fun art experiences like cutting tissue paper to look like ice on the I, mixing colors of paint in shaving cream, mixing water colors on paper towels to create cooperative art, making our own kazoos and sculpting with play dough. All of these fun activities strengthen the fine motor muscles we need to be able to write. They are important pre-school activities. The kids also really enjoyed our science experiment this week. First,we arranged Skittles in a round cake pan in an AB pattern. We talked about how the skittles are a solid and are made of sugar. Then we poured hot water on them and watched the colors dissolve. They created a beautiful swirling pattern. The kids recorded what they saw. We also began talking about saints this week since November 1st was All Saints Day. This week we learned about Mary and Joseph. Then on Friday, we went to church with our buddies and watched the fifth graders give saint presentations. The kids did a great job listening attentively and behaving respectfully in church. Just a reminder that permission slips for our walking field trip to the Florissant Civic Center went home a week ago and were due last Monday. If you have not turned yours in, please do so as soon as possible. If you lost your permission slip and need another, please let me know and i will send home another copy. No child can attend the trip without one. Also, if your child attends 5 days, I need you to send in another notebook. We have almost filled the ones they started the year with. We will need 2 more before the end of the year, so feel free to get two more and I will hang on to them. If your child attends 3 days, they will need one more before the end of the year. If they attend 2 days, I think one notebook will last them the entire year. Thanks for all you do.
