Dear Parents,

We have completed another great week of preschool.

This week we worked on the letter K.  The kids did a great job listing words that start with K, even though it is a difficult letter because many great ideas actually start with C.  Pearl did a great job giving us clues to guess for the clue can.  We also had fun painting kites.  We will review letters we have worked on during the short week and pick up with the letter L after Thanksgiving.

Dr. Gilligan visited our classroom this week and read a book to the kids.  He will be coming in every Wednesday, so he can get to know them better.

We also had our kindness lesson with Miss Katie this week.  She talked about how we can go somewhere quiet when we are upset to calm down.  She also had the kids practice deep breathing by placing stuffed animals on their tummies and making them go up and down to "put them to sleep".  The kids really did a  great job with this.

We used the feast of St. Rose and Thanksgiving as a great chance to discuss Native American culture.  We watched a brief video that talked about how they were the first people to live in the land now known as the United States, the four major tribes, and the shelters and lifestyles of these groups.  We then went on to make paper representations of wigwams or teepees, and made bright colored necklaces like we noticed in the photographs we viewed of Native Americans.

We also talked about what good Thanksgiving manners and what we are thankful for and made a Thanksgiving card for our grandparents.  I am very excited to see all of the grandparents this Wednesday, November 27th at Grandparent's Day.

This is the last update you will see until December, since this coming week is a short one.  I hope that all of you have a great Thanksgiving with your families.  Know that I count your children, you, and the whole wonderful community at St. Rose among the many things I have to be thankful for this year.

Blessings,
Mrs. Hale
