Hello parents,

I hope that everyone enjoyed the long weekend with family; I know I did.  The kids are really learning and growing so fast.  It is amazing to watch! Is it any wonder I love my job?   We added reciting the Pledge of Allegiance to circle time this week.  I first stamp their right hands so they know which one to place on their hearts.  It will take a while, but they will start reciting it with us soon.  We continue to write in our journals every morning.  Everyone is working on either writing or tracing their name.  They also either finish a writing prompt or answer a question.  Although they dictate their answers and we write them, this is pre-writing.  It is also a great way to get to know these wonderful children you've raised as individuals.  This week we will begin working on the letter A.  I am excited to begin the clue can, yoga, and poetry.
We also began exploring Dr. Seuss books this week.  We watched The Cat in the Hat on the smartboard and made striped cups in science (with oil and water) and cut red stripes to make cat in the hat hats.  The kids did a great job cutting on a line.  Everyone was able to do this, some on their own, some with verbal directions, some with hands on help.

We have also continued to work on reviewing basic shapes and colors.  We also continue to work on counting and graphing every day at calendar.

The most important area we are working on is social skills.  We are working on sharing, cooperating, expressing our wants and needs with words instead of actions, sitting at circle time, walking in a line, and treating our friends like Jesus would.  This is hard for adults, it is certainly a work in progress for 3-5 year olds.

This week you will receive the September lunch menu.  Please remember to keep this in your child's folder so that you can circle which lunch option you want your child to buy.  We have had tears because kids tell me they want what the child next to them ordered, even though they don't like it.  I  (also don't want to buy a more expensive Chick-filet lunch if you don't want to.  Thanks for your cooperation in this matter.
