7th Grade Grun

Meet the Teacher:

My name is Jaime Grun, and this is my 20th year of teaching.  I have been the English teacher at St. Rose for the past 15 years.  This year, besides teaching grammar and writing, I will also be teaching 7th grade religion.  I look forward to working with your children throughout the year!

March 16 - 20:

March 9 - 13:

The 7th grade will have a religion test on Chapter 18 on Tuesday, March 10th.  Click here to study.

The 6th grade will finish their creative stories due on Wednesday, March 11th.  They will then begin Pronouns and Antecedents.

The 7th grade will work on the final steps of their research papers.  By the end of this week, they should have their topics chosen and should begin the research and writing process.

The 8th grade will finish their epilogues due on Tuesday, March 10th.  They will then study Personal and Possessive Pronouns; and Pronoun Antecedents.

Reminders:  Friday, March 13th is Spring Fling Mission Carnival.

                    Spring Break begins on Monday, March 16th.   We return to school on Monday, March 23rd.  

March 2 - 6:

The 7th grade will have a test on Act of Love on Monday March 2nd and a test on the Nicene Creed on Friday, March 6th.

The 6th grade will take their test on Modifiers on Tuesday, March 3rd.  Click here to study.  They will then begin their story projects due on Wednesday, March 11th.

The 7th grade will take their test on Modifiers on Wednesday, March 4th.  Click here to study.  The will then discuss the final touches of their research papers.

The 8th grade will take their test on modifiers on Monday, March 2nd.  Click here to study.  They will then begin writing their epilogue due on Tuesday, march 10th.  Chapter 5 of the autobiography is due on Friday, march 6th.

February 24 - 28:

The 7th grade will have a religion test on Chapter 17 on Thursday, February 27th. Click here to study.

The 6th grade will study Comparing with Adverbs; Negatives; and Adjective or Adverb.  They will then prepare for their test on modifiers on Tuesday, March 3rd.  Click here to study.

February 17 - 21:

The 7th grade will have a religion test on Chapter 16 on Thursday, February 20th.  Click here to study.

The 6th grade will study Adverbs; and More About Adverbs.

The 7th grade will learn about Adverbs.

The 8th grade will begin Adverbs; and Comparing with Adverbs.  Chapter 4 of the autobiography is due on Friday, February 21st.

Reminders:  No School on Monday for Presidents' Day.

Wednesday, February 19th is a field trip for 7th grade.

February 10 - 14:

The 7th grade will have a test on Act of Hope on Friday, February 14th.


The 7th grade will study Adjectives; and Comparing with Adjectives.

The 8th grade argument papers are due on Tuesday, February 11th.  They will then learn about Adjectives; and Comparing with Adjectives.

Reminders:  Friday, February 14th is a noon dismissal for faculty meetings.

February 3 - 7:

The 7th grade will have a test on Act of Faith on Friday, February 7th.

The 6th grade will finish their stories due on Wednesday, February 5th.  They will then begin Adjectives.

The 7th grade will continue working on their research papers.

The 8th grade will begin their argument papers due on Tuesday, February 11th.

Reminders:  There is a retreat at Chaminade on Tuesday, February 4th.

                    Mid Quarter in on Friday, February 7th.

January 27 - 31:

The 7th grade will have a religion test on Chapter 15 on Wednesday, January 29th.  Because of Student Appreciation being the day before, this test will be open book.  However, you may also click here to study.

The 6th grade will begin a writing project.  They will have creative freedom to write their own stories.  These stories will be due on Wednesday, February 5th.

The 7th grade will have a test on Verbs on Tuesday, January 28th.  Click here to study.  They will then begin to study parenthetical citations and bibliographies for their research papers.

The 8th grade will have a test on Verbs on Friday, January 31st.  Click here to study.  Chapter 20 of the autobiography is due on Friday as well.  This chapter is your choice.  It can be pictures, drawings, stories, etc...  It is your decision.

Reminders:  It is Catholic Schools Week.  Lots of activities going on.  Look in the newsletter for various dress down days and activities.

Friday is a noon dismissal for faculty meetings.

January 20 - 24:

Because of the snow day last Friday, some of the dates have changed.  :)

The 6th grade will have a test on Verbs on Friday, January 24th.  Click here to study.

The 7th grade will learn about Rise, Raise; Lie, Lay; Sit, and Set; and Bring, Take; Let, Leave; Lend, and Loan.  They will have a test on Verbs on Tuesday, January 28th.  Click here to Study.


January 13 - 17:

The 7th grade will have a religion test on Chapter 14 on Tuesday, January 14th.  Click here to study.



The 8th grade will study Predicate Nouns and Predicate Adjectives; Active and Passive Voice; Subject Verb Agreement; and More About Subject Verb Agreement.  Autobiography Chapter 18, the Poem About You, is due on Friday, January 17th.  (It was already written with the poetry project.  Just put Chapter 18 at the top, take out the underlining, and fix any mistakes).

Reminders:  Report Cards will actually go home on Wednesday, January 15th.

                    Friday, January 17th is a noon dismissal due to teacher meetings.

January 6 - 10:




December 16 - 20:

The 7th grade will have a religion test on Chapter 13 on Tuesday, December 17th.  Click here to study.

The 6th grade will begin Perfect Tenses;Perfect Tenses: and Regular and Irregular Verbs.

The 7th grade will learn about Progressive Forms.


Reminders:  The quarter ends on Friday, December 20th.

Friday, December 20th is also a noon dismissal.  We will celebrate our Christmas parties.  There is no aftercare.

December 9 - 13:

The 7th grade will have a prayer test on the Apostle's Creed on Friday, December 13th.




December 2 - 6:

The 7th grade will have a test on the Prayer after Meals on Friday, December 6th.


The 7th grade will learn about Kinds of Verbs; Verb Phrases; and Simple Verb Tenses.

The 8th grade will continue to work on their poetry projects due on Wednesday, December 4th.  They will then begin Kinds of Verbs.

Reminders:  Friday, December 6th is a noon dismissal for faculty meetings.

November 25 - 27:

The 7th grade will have a religion test on Chapter 12 on Tuesday, November 26th.  Click here to study.

The 6th grade will finish their poetry project due on Monday, December 2nd.

The 7th grade will continue to learn about research paper outlines.

The 8th grade will continue working on their poetry projects due on Wednesday, December 4th.

Reminders:  Grandparents' Day is Wednesday, November 27th.  It is a noon dismissal with no aftercare.

                    We are off Thursday and Friday for Thanksgiving.

November 11 - 15:

The 7th grade will have a prayer test on the Prayer before Meals on Friday, November 11th.

November 4 - 8:

The 7th grade will have a religion test on Chapter 10 on Thursday, November 7th.  Click here to study.



The 8th grade will learn about Kinds of Nouns; and Collective and Compound Nouns.

Reminders:  Fifth grade Saints' Projects will be presented at 11:00 in the chapel on Friday, November 8th.

October 28 - 30:

The 6th grade will study Compound Predicates; Compound Sentences; and Conjunctions.

The 7th grade will begin Finding the Subject; Conjunctions; and Fragments and Run-ons.

The 8th grade will earn about Finding the Subject; Compound Subjects and Compound Predicates; and Compound Sentences.  Autobiography Chapter 6 in due on Friday, October 11th.

Reminders:  Monday, October 7 at 2:30 is Blessing of the Pets.

                    Friday, October 11 is a noon dismissal for a faculty meeting.

September 30 - October 4:

The 7th grade will have a religion test on Chapter 6 on Tuesday, October 1st.  Click here to study.  Their Book of Terms for Chapters 1 - 6 is due On Thursday, October 3rd.  Definitions can be found on my Google Classroom.

The 6th grade will study Compound Subjects.



Reminders:    8th grade has Right Start on Monday, and therefore will not have English class.
                        6th grade is at Camp Lakewood from Monday through Wednesday.
                        No School on Friday, due to faculty retreat.

September 23 - 27:

The 7th grade will have a religion test on Chapter 5 on Tuesday, September 24th.  Click here to study.


The 7th grade will continue learning about starting a research paper and picking a topic.  We will not start writing these papers until April.

The 8th grade will work on their letter project due on Friday, September 27th.  Autobiography Chapter 1 is due Friday, September 27th.  See the Autobiography Syllabus on Google Classroom for details.

September 16 - 20:

The 7th grade will not have religion class this week due to ITBS Testing.

The 6th grade will not have English class this week due to ITBS Testing.  Since the 6th grade asked for an extension on their project, I will not be able to collect their letters until Monday, September 23rd.

The 7th grade will be working on research paper notes including spider maps and KWL charts.  They will have a test on Capitalization and Punctuation on Monday, September 23rd.

The 8th grade will only have class on Wednesday, due to ITBS testing.  They will begin their letter writing project due on Friday, September 27th.  The do not have any autobiography due this week.

Reminders:    Mid Quarter is Friday, September 20th.

                        Please bring a snack each day during ITBS week.  We will take breaks occasionally throughout the                                     morning.

September 9 - 13:

The 7th grade will have a test on Chapter 4 in religion on Tuesday, September 10th.  Click here to study.  They will have a test on the Our Father on Friday, September 13th.

The 6th grade will  be working on their friendly and business letters due on Friday, September 13th.

The 7th grade will be studying Apostrophes; and Hyphens, Dashes, and Parentheses.

The 8th grade will learn about Hyphens, Dashes, and Parentheses.  They will have their test on Capitalization and Punctuation on Friday, September 13th.  Click here to study.  The Preface of their autobiography is due on Friday as well.

September 2 - 6:

7G will begin Titles; the 7th grade will learn about Semicolons and Colons; and Abbreviations.

August 26 - 30:

The 7th grade will have a test on Chapter 2 in religion on Tuesday, August 27th.  Click here to study

The 6th grade will begin Abbreviations; Quotations; and Titles.

The 7th grade will learn about More Uses for Commas; Dates, Addresses, and Letters; Direct Quotations; and 7D will learn Titles.


Reminders:  Friday, August 30th is a noon dismissal.  It is also a dress down day for St. Vincent DePaul.  Bring in a can good or a $1 in order to dress down.

August 19 - 23:

The 7th grade will have a test on Chapter 1 in religion on Tuesday, August 20th. Click here to study

The 6th grade will begin Reviewing End Punctuation.

Seventh grade will begin by reviewing capitalization and punctuation.

The 8th grade will study Interjections.
