Dear Parent(s), Hope you are all handling the cold weather well. The children have been inside a big part of the week due to the weather. The children have been given their names for their projects in social studies. We have pulled back some books for the children and they will begin on Monday. If you would like to go to the library as well to find additional information that is fine as well. Remember most of the work will be done here at school minus the work the children need to do on the posters. This is always a fun project for the children to work on and learn about different people who made a wonderful contribution in our world. Below are some of the topics we will be covering this week: Religion: We are beginning a new chapter about the different types of prayers. Spelling: We will be having our spelling test on Monday over Unit 17 due to the holiday on Monday. Our next unit is a review unit over the skills taught in the previous units. Math: We will be covering how to find the variable of a missing addend, how to check addition or subtraction problems by doing the opposite order, and we will be working with our multiplication facts of 9, 4, and 3's. We will also be reviewing fractional parts and our perfect squares. English: We are learning how to write abbreviations, what parts of a book title need to begin with a capital letter, and where to add commas. Social Studies : the children will be doing research for their projects. Science: We learning this week about chemical and physical changes, and how matter can be changed. Reading: We are in the story, " What Do Illustrators Do?" The skills taught in the story are three letter clusters ( scr, spr, str, and thr). It also reviews the verbs tenses of present , past, and future. Other skills taught in the story are graphic features, sequencing, and text features. These could include special type, speech balloons, and labels. Hope you all have a wonderful weekend! |
