Dear Parent(s), We have been very busy this past week completing chapters is religion, reading, and math. Please look in your child's folder for homework that has been graded. If your child received a 90% or greater on their vocabulary/ comprehension test in reading it is being displayed on our Wall of Fame wall. Those tests will come home next week. Parents we are having a little problem with some of the extra talking in the class. Please talk to your child about the importance of being a quiet worker.This Monday is a holiday so we are not in session. Your child does however have their new spelling words in their planners. The following are the topics we will be covering this week. Religion: We are beginning chapter two in our books. The first chapter I showed them how the test were set up and we took a test together so they learn how important it is to highlight our chapters with the important concepts. Chapter Two is about God's great love for us. We will learn about the parts of the bible( testaments) we will learn what faith means, and what the Kingdom of God is. English: We will be preparing for our first English test this week. I believe we should be more than ready by Thursday to take the test, however; if it needs to be Friday I will let you know by the use of the planners. Please check those each evening and sign. The children have been asked to take books home all of last week and of course this coming week to ready themselves. Math: We are learning about the properties of addition. ( Identity (zero) property of addition, commutative, and associative) They will be using these to explore a addition patterns. We will be doing additional work with estimation by estimating the sums of a problem, and we will be adding with partial sums. Spelling : The words for this week follow the short o, and e sound. The words are: crop, clock, drop, plot, block, flock, test, spent, left, sled, spend, west, tent, desk, nest. Reading:This week we will beginning our new story, Cardigan Jones. The genre of this story is that of a fantasy. We will discuss makes a story fiction or nonfiction. The target vocabulary words for this story are : trail, jury, convinced, guilty, pointed, honest, murmur, and stand. We will be working with words that follow the long vowels a, e, i, o, u. Other skills also taught in this lesson are words that follow the VCe pattern. Have a nice long weekend see you on Tuesday!!! |
