Dear Parent(s),
Welcome to a new season??? That's right, this Wednesday we begin the season of Lent.  The children will celebrate the beginning of Lent by going to mass on Ash Wednesday.  During this lent we need to think of all the ways we can better ourselves through fasting, prayer, and almsgiving. Parents, special note that all Black History Projects are due on Wednesday.  The children will be walking over to St. Catherine's on Friday to present their projects to our special friends who live there. Below are the topics we will be covering this week.

Religion 2: This week we will start the week discussing what we can do to make the season of Lent a special time. We are also going to start preparing ourselves to receive Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament of Eucharist. This is something now we will studying for the next few weeks.

Religion 3: We will be preparing our selves for the Lenten Season.  Talking about ways we can grow for the next 40 days.  We will also be learning how God calls all of us to be holy.

Spelling: Unit 22 words follow the r- controlled vowel sound as well as last week.  There are many homophones so I have warned the children that it is important that we pay special attention to what the word also means. The words are: pear, pair, hare, barefoot, fare, their, hair, bare, nowhere, there, software, fair, where, hardware.

Social Studies: The children will start presenting their projects on Wednesday.  Make sure they have everything they need to present their work. ( Note cards, any props, or clothing items).

Math: The children will be working by multiplying by 5's , and multiplying by nine this week. The children have been making flashcards and are encouraged to use those cards to review their facts.

English: This week we will be capitalizing other types of Proper Nouns. We will also be learning how to abbreviate and write book titles correctly.

Reading: The children will be taking their reading test over the vocabulary and comprehension  Monday over the story the Kamishibai Man. The rest tof the week we will be reading the story Young Thomas Edison. The vocabulary words for this story are: invention, experiment, laboratory, genius, gadget, electric, signal, occasional.  Some of the skills that go along with this story are words that au, aw, al, and o sounds. We will also be reviewing singular and plural nouns.

Have a wonderful weekend!
